How do I add keywords to my company profile?

Keywords are an essential part of your company profile on 12Build. By setting the right search terms, you ensure that general contractors find your company more quickly when they search for specific specializations, products, or brands.

What will you find in this article?

  • Adding keywords: The steps to link search terms to your profile.

  • Choosing effective keywords: Tips for selecting the right terms to maximize discoverability.

  • Boosted keywords: How to prioritize specific terms in search results.

Summary

You add keywords via the General tab in the Ad module. By using specific terms and giving the most important words a 'boost,' you’ll rise in the search results for general contractors within your service area. Avoid general terms and spaces for the best results.

Requirements and target audience

This article is for subcontractors who want to optimise their visibility in the 12Build search engine. The number of available 'boosts' depends on your chosen package.

Add keywords

You manage your search terms centrally in the advertising module of your profile.

  1. In the menu bar on the left, click on Advertisement.

  2. Go to the General tab.

  3. On the right-hand side, navigate to the section Keywords I want to be found on.

  4. Type in the desired terms and add them to the list.

Choosing effective keywords

Not every keyword is equally effective. Keep the following guidelines in mind for optimal results:

  • Be specific: Avoid using general terms like “new construction” or “renovation.” Instead, use specific products, brands, or dealers.

  • No spaces or hyphens: Do not use spaces in keywords. Combined words like “steel-doors” or “steel-doors” work less effectively. Add “steel” and “doors” as two separate keywords.

  • Additions to workpackages: Use keywords for terms that are missing from standard workpackages (such as STABU or VMSW).

  • Think like the customer: Consider what specific search term a general contractor would type to find your expertise.

Boosted keywords

Boosting a keyword gives it priority, causing you to appear higher in search results for relevant queries.

  1. Check the list to see how many keywords your package allows you to ‘boost’.

  2. Drag your most important keywords to the top positions in the list to activate the boost.

  3. Keywords lower in the list are “inactive” in terms of the boost, but remain discoverable in regular search results. You can add an unlimited number of inactive keywords.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How many keywords can I add in total? You can add an unlimited number of “inactive” keywords. Only the number of keywords that receive a boost (and thus a higher ranking) is limited by your package.

Why don’t terms with spaces work well? The 12Build search engine indexes individual words most effectively. By splitting words (for example, “floor” and “heating” instead of “floor heating”), you match more variations of search queries.

Troubleshooting

  • Symptom: I rank low in search results for my main specialty.

    • Cause: The keyword in question is at the bottom of the list and has no boost.

    • Solution: Drag the most important keyword to the top of the list in the "Keywords I want to be found for" section.

  • Symptom: I cannot add preferences for project types (such as residential construction) to the keywords.

    • Cause: Project preferences are not associated with keywords but with "activities."

    • Solution: Navigate to the Activities section in your profile to specify your preferences there.
